Portalegre. has become fashionable with elevation-obsessed winegrowers who seek finesse over raw power. Wines from this specific Alentejo region, are celebrated for their quality. While much of the Alentejo is known for hot, dry plains, the vineyards in the foothills of the Serra de São Mamede benefit from a much cooler microclimate due to their higher altitude.

The high-altitude terroir of Portalegre is defined by steep, granitic, and schist-rich slopes, produce wines with distinct character and complexity.

Many vineyards in Portalegre are home to ancient vines, some over 70 years old. This, along with artisanal winemaking practices, contributes to the gourmet qualities of the wine.
